Our history

In the late ‘50s Paolo Minzolini, the company’s founder, moved from Giardino, a hamlet of Imola, to Piratello, in Via Merlotta 1, with his wife Giovanna Mimmi.
Together, this hard-working and enterprising young couple initiated this extraordinary adventure. At the beginning they were sharecroppers, but in a few years thanks to their passion and dedication to land and work, they started to produce wine already with a view to achieving high quality.
In the early 80’s they purchased the historic Tenuta Merlotta and a few years later the magnificent Tenuta Fratina.

In those years their sons Raffaele and Nerio finished their studies, so that in 1994, feeling confident thanks to their acquired knowledge, made relevant investments to create new wine-making cellars.
In the meanwhile, the years went by and achievements increased constantly, so that they continued to invest, encouraged by the new generation who strongly believe that their future was in the magic world of wine.

At the end of the ’90s the Minzolini family purchased 30 hectares of land on the magnificent hills of Gallo Bolognese in Castel S. Pietro Terme. After careful stratigraphic analyses the most suitable varieties and clones for the soil characteristics were selected.
Today, these wonderful vineyards of Tenuta Coccapane yield Merlotta' s great wines capable of giving extraordinary emotions and of representing the “Made in Italy” all over the world.
